The Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Oyewumi Kamorudeen Olalere today underscored a memorable and auspicious day in his life as he marks 365 days in office as the Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District in the Tenth Senate; a significant milestone in his political journey, and unique representation to the good people of Osun West Senatorial District.
On this occasion, he thanked Almighty God for his faithfulness, good health, guidance, peace and protection. The Senator however thanked his wife, and family who have stood by him throughout the years, as they have been a reliable and firm pillar of support who have shown him the meaning of consistency and faithfulness through their love for him.
Senator Lere Oyewumi used the opportunity to appreciate his constituents for their staunch belief and continuous support in the journey so far; based on the promise to change the developmental indices in the Senatorial zone that is today gradually taking shape to the glory of God he said.
He stated that after taking the oath of office 365 days ago, my vision and mission is to influence a secured, educated, empowered and prosperous Osun west senatorial district, Osun state and Southwest in general and also initiate, sponsor and support progressive bills and resolutions that will bring the much-needed dividends of democracy to the good people of the District through good legislation, parliamentary involvement and exemplary leadership.
Since assumption to office on June 13, 2023, Sen. Oyewumi did not only speak and fight for the people at the National Assembly, He also matched his oral agitation for improved welfare of Nigerians with visible projects that cut across his constituency in Osun West Senatorial district in less than a year. Senator Oyewumi’s experience cut across representation, Legislation, oversight functioning, and budgetary control. Let’s look at some of the motions he moved;
Urgent need to intervene in the devastating flooding incident in Ikire, Apomu And Gbongan areas of Osun state.
Urgent intervention in the repair of Ibadan/Ilesha express road in Osun state.
Motion on the discrimination against medical graduates from Ukraine by Nigerian Medical And Dental Council
His bill on the Constitutional Amendment to the state House of Assembly Constituency has passed First reading in the senate.
Senator Oyewumi set the ball rolling immediately he was elected the Senator representing Osun West Senatorial district by ensuring the wellbeing of his constituents with mouth-watering physical projects and empowerments to ensure their financial freedom in just less than 365 days at the Red chamber of the National Assembly. Some of the projects includes;
Construction of Oriolowo/Agbele road in Iwo local Government, completed and commissioned.
Construction of Fojugbagi/Adediti road in Iwo local Government, completed and commissioned.
Construction Of Bovas - Araromi Road, Oluponna, Aiyedire Local Government (Ongoing)
Provision and Installation of three 500KVA transformers to Sunmoye, Islamiyah and Ako areas, Ikire in Irewole Local Government.
Provision of solar powered street lights in Islamiyah Area, Ikire.
Distribution of strategic empowerment program such as; sewing machines, wheel chair and over 15 million cash grants for the capacity building training participants.
Training and empowerment of youth and women in mining of solid minerals and provision of cash grants to the participants across Osun West Senatorial District
Distribution of 120 Motorcycles to constituents in Osun West Senatorial District
Distribution of over 500 bags of fertilizers to Farmers across Osun West Senatorial District
Distribution of over 50 million cash grants to women, youths, artisans and traders in Osun West Senatorial District
Sponsoring of 50 Undergraduates in Polytechnics and Universities from Osun West Senatorial District.
He has distributed 5 trailers of Rice as palliatives to his constituents to ameliorate the economic hardship.
Given the above eagle eye view of the array of his legislative interventions, Senator Dr Lere Oyewumi reiterated that his dream of a better Osun West is purely borne out of the interest and desire to harness the vast human and material resources including the economic viability of the various towns and utilize them for the sustainable growth and development of our people.
The lawmaker stressed that Its worthy of note at that he is fully focused on seeing all his Strategic bills through to implementation stage as this will provide massive employments for our teeming youth population and ensure purposeful representation. He notify his constituents and supporters, to be rest assured that he will keep running his open door policy and expect to hear from them whenever the need arises.
Senator Oyewumi thanked all for their massive support and advice including their constructive criticisms. He said "It is my sincere hope that with your relentless support, ideas and prayers, I will continue to fashion our legislative interventions for the development of Osun West Senatorial District, Osun state and Nigeria at large."
