The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today received a boost as the party leaders welcome decampees from the All Progressives Congress, APC across the 11 wards of Irewole LGA in Osun State. The party leaders, while receiving the defectors, assured them that their interests would be highly protected.
The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Akogun Lere Oyewumi Ph.D, who spoke while receiving the party faithful, hailed their courage, foresight in coming into the PDP fold. He assured them that having taken the bold step, they will enjoy all the rights and privileges other members have been enjoying. He urged the new PDP members to see the total winning of PDP in subsequent elections as a great challenge that they must surmount and pointed out that having been accepted as full-fledged members of PDP.
Speaking at the event, the member representing Irewole/Isokan State Constituency, Hon. Biola Inaolaji, Commissioner for Energy Hon. Festus Adeyemo, Irewole LGA Chairman Hon. Jide Jooda, Irewole North East Chairman Hon. Kola Akinpelu, while welcoming them, said PDP is a party that believes in equity and is capable of accommodating all. He assured them that they will never regret coming into the PDP. They urged the new members to enlist more of their supporters and advocate for others in the grassroots to join the PDP, as there is room for everyone to benefit from the dividends of good governance.
The leader of the delegation, Hon. Babatunde Ayandosu a.k.a Tunde Onilu, who was a strong stakeholder in the APC, said they made the decision and are convinced to join the ruling party because they identified Senator Akogun Lere Kamorudeen Oyewumi's leadership acumen and political trajectory, which reflect his firmness to always do the right thing. He noted that members of the group are high-ranking leaders of APC in Irewole LGA and are now willing to work for the PDP.
Senator Oyewumi handed the leader of the delegation, Hon. Tunde Onilu, Sola Awotunde, Mr Morufu Oyekola, Mrs Yemisi Ayandosu, Amuda Ayantoye Sherif to the Party Chairman, Hon. Bashiru Ogundele Ijakula, who received the new members from the Senator, said they were strong grassroots stakeholders from all the 11 wards in Irewole LGA who have been harvested by party stakeholders from the local government.
He stressed that the new party members were willing to join the party, work, and add value towards the party’s victory in the forthcoming elections. The now former APC faithful have decided to join the ruling PDP and collapse their structures into the ruling PDP in Irewole LGA, Osun State.
