Senator Lere Oyewumi PhD Speaking in Abuja on Monday at a crucial meeting between the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise, and Tariff, and  Adewale Adeniyi, comptroller-general of the NCS, and the management of the service. He emphasized the need for the service to play a significant role in sourcing for fund to finance their budget through increasing their revenue. He stressed the importance of internally generated revenue through importations.

Sen. Oyewumi observed that in 2023 one of the major problems Nigeria Senators observed during the Public Hearing On the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) And Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) of the Senate was the low release of the funds to meet up the budget of the year but NCS budget 2024 is carried over of previous year budget.

Senator Oyewumi also calls for synergy between Nigeria Customs Service Management and the Senate Committee on Customs for the benefit of the Service and Nigeria at large.
