As Nigeria marks her 63rd Independence anniversary, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Akogun Lere Oyewumi has felicitated with Nigerians on the occasion of the 63rd Independence anniversary, describing it as a great milestone that calls for both celebration and sober reflection. He praised Nigerians for their resilience and sacrifices to surmount the nation’s challenges. He noted that the country has demonstrated unusual resilience in the face of many odds.
Senator Oyewumi called on Nigerians to use the anniversary to reflect on the past achievements of the country, particularly the contributions of the founding fathers towards achieving independence and building a united country. "Today, we celebrate 63 years of nationhood. It's pertinent to celebrate the return of our liberties, the restoration of our dignity, and the democratic resilience we have built over the last 6 decades", he said.
Senator Oyewumi observed that the celebration of Independence Day is an event that should reawaken Nigeria’s consciousness towards the consolidation of unity among the diverse people of the country. Akogun Lere Oyewumi also urged Nigerians to be optimistic about the future of the nation, notwithstanding the enormity of the current challenges, adding that there was light at the end of the tunnel.
While calling for a vigilant citizenry's involvement in monitoring government activities, officials, and programs, the lawmaker prayed that the country would continue to exist in peace, with unity among the various groups and continuous development of the various parts of the country.
