Sen. Akogun Olalere Oyewumi's 100 Days in Office: The Journey to Transform Osun West

In the February 25th General Election, Senator Akogun Olalere Oyewumi, a Doctorate holder in Community Development Philosophy, was entrusted with the mandate to represent the good people of Osun West Senatorial District. This district encompasses Iwo, Ayedire, Ola-oluwa, Ede-North, Ede-South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Irewole, Ayedaade, and Isokan Local Government Areas of Osun State.


On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the Nigerian National Assembly inaugurated the 10th Senate, swearing in members, including the people-centric Senator Akogun Olalere Oyewumi of Osun West Senatorial District.


Senator Akogun Olalere Oyewumi's vision for transforming the Senatorial District is centered on his Six-Point Agenda:

- Ensuring Accountability, Transparency, Oversight, and Effective Legislation

- Advancing Education

- Empowering Youth and Women through Skills Acquisition for Self-Sustainability

- Promoting Community Development and Corporate Social Responsibility

- Focusing on Health, Sports, Entertainment, Cultural Heritage, and Social Services

- Driving Economic Diversification, Agricultural Reform, and Industrial Development


Due to his past achievements and goodwill, Senator Lere Oyewumi was honored with the 'Ambassador of the Masses Award' by students of his political school of thought, The Akogun Frontline Team, Osun West, Nigeria, on June 17, 2023. On June 26, 2023, the Lere Victory Group, a prominent political group of the PDP, hosted a Thanksgiving program in his honor.


On July 4, 2023, Senator Olalere Oyewumi was elected Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate by his fellow distinguished Senators. To fulfill his legislative duty, Sen. Olalere Oyewumi identified the flood victims in his constituency and summoned government intervention via a motion raised during the Senate plenary on July 22, 2023.


On July 28, 2023, Senator Lere Oyewumi visited the flood-affected areas in Ikire, Apomu, and Gbongan communities to assess the situation. To reciprocate the love of his people, he flagged off the construction of two major roads in Iwo, the headquarters of Osun West Senatorial District, on July 29, 2023.


In his effort to extend the dividends of democracy across Osun West, Akogun Lere Oyewumi donated a generator set to the people of Onibepe Village in Irewole Local Government.


Senator Olalere Oyewumi's name is gaining recognition far and wide. On August 8, 2023, he assumed the position of Vice Chairman in the House Committee on Finance and became a member of other Senate committees.


On August 17, 2023, Sen. Lere Oyewumi praised Osun State Governor Sen. Nurudeen Ademola Jackson Adeleke for his swift intervention in preventing future flooding in Ikire, Apomu, and Gbongan, as dredging operations began.


Senator Lere's commitment to community development led him to kick-start his 'Light-up Osun West Project,' which involved the installation of solar-powered street lights in Irewole Local Government, Ikire, Osun State.


To support the education sector, Sen. Olalere Oyewumi made an official visit to Osun State University, Ikire Campus, on August 31, 2023. He met with the school's provost and inspected the campus infrastructure. The same day, he paid a courtesy call to the Federal College of Education, Iwo.


To conclude, on September 5, 2023, Sen. Lere Oyewumi made a courtesy call to Federal Polytechnic, Ede, assuring the school of maximum support from his office. In his pursuit of transparent legislation, Sen. Oyewumi unveiled a digital platform for open representation on September 8, 2023.
