The representation of the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Dr. Lere Oyewumi, in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly during his first 100 days has been receiving accolades from the electorate in Osun West Senatorial District and beyond. He has delivered on the dividends of democracy in this relatively short period.
The people of Osun West Senatorial District voted for good representation, and Senator Oyewumi has lived up to their expectations. His representation can be best described as "the face of good governance in Nigeria."
Electing a representative is one thing; having them effectively discharge their duties is another. When it comes to Legislative Engagement, Distinguished Senator Lere Oyewumi's first 100 days in office have been exceptional. He has moved and supported numerous motions on the floor of the Senate, including matters of Urgent Public Importance that affect the people of Osun West Senatorial District and all Nigerians.
His remarks during the ministerial screening of the former Governor of Osun State, Governor Oyetola, where he described him as "Abobaji" to President Tinubu, earned him national respect and was commended by all, including the Senate President.
In terms of Community and Social Development, Senator Lare Oyewumi's involvement and intervention in addressing the recent flooding that ravaged Ikire, Apomu, and its surroundings showcase his quality representation. His initiatives, such as the flagging off of Osun West streetlights in Ikire and the construction of a road in Iwo, reflect his visionary representation.
Osun West Senatorial District has never witnessed a senator who consistently emphasizes the importance of addressing abandoned projects as Senator Lere has done since taking office. That's why he recently visited the UNIOSUN Ikire campus to assess the level of infrastructural challenges confronting the school, particularly the TETFUND abandoned theatre art building. Distinguished Lere Oyewumi also paid courtesy visits to Federal Polytechnic Ede and Federal College of Education Iwo for the same purpose.
Nearly a month ago, Senator Oyewumi held a press conference with media houses, seeking input on what our communities needed to see from his administration. As a result of that, he has unveiled a digital platform for open representation. This platform will serve as a channel for the people of Osun West Senatorial District to reach out to the senator with legislative ideas and social justice issues, such as workplace injustice, community needs, and unjust treatment at any level, against an individual or a group.
We look forward to continuous impactful representation to ensure that all the promises made during the electioneering period are fulfilled.
