The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Akogun Lere Oyewumi today paid a courtesy visit to the Provost, Federal College Of Education, Iwo Osun State. The President Muhammadu Buhari administration recently approved the establishment of six Federal Colleges of Education in all geo-political zones in Nigeria, and Osun in the southwest is one of the beneficiaries, with the college sited in Iwo. While congratulating the pioneer Provost and his team, Senator Lere Oyewumi promised to support the pioneer management of the school with educational facilities and infrastructures.
Senator Lere Oyewumi who described education as the bedrock of socio-economic development of any society, said that the establishment of the institution in the state would complement his administration’s efforts at supporting quality, qualitative, and functional education at all levels. According to him, the establishment of more colleges of education in the country will further contribute significantly to the development of education in the country.
In his remarks, Professor Rafiu Ibrahim Adebayo commended and appreciated Senator Lere Oyewumi for the visit, his outstanding leadership, and magnanimity. Professor Rafiu Ibrahim Adebayo listed out challenges facing the newly established institution. While commending the Federal Government for the approved fund and Tetfund Special Intervention projects at the College's permanent site, the provost enumerated a myriad of challenges including hostel accommodation, teaching facilities, medical center, lecture theater, accessible road, advanced ICT center and transportation.
He canvassed the need for Corporate bodies and individuals to rally around the Principal Officers of the school for a smooth take-off. Sen. Lere Oyewumi assured that as a Senate committee member of Tertiary Institution and Tetfund, he will seek further discussions with the College's authorities on possible specific areas of support while enjoining the team to work hard to achieve success.
